Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

The students at my school are made up of individuals ranging from ages 16 - 24 who are still committed to earning a high school diploma. They are creative beings that are searching for a way to survive in the world. The biggest challenge with my students is confidence and access to necessary resources for success. They come to school to learn, find safety, and build relationships. Our goal is to help them become career and college ready by providing them with all the necessary resources so that finances are not a barrier to their success.

My Project

In my classroom, I am training the students to work as professional hairstylists with the goal to become a licensed Cosmetologist. During certain class periods, we function as an actual salon serving people from the community. We need capes, and towels to create a professional feel to the salon. In addition, it gives a uniform look when the students are working on the clients. In addition we need a rack to be able to hang up the belongings of both the clients and stylist when they enter the shop so we have a clean work space environment to operate in while on the clinic floor.
