Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Incorporating manipulatives during the teacher-led center during differentiated instruction will help to enhance the reading skills of my students. Differentiated instruction is a valuable approach, especially when catering to diverse learning needs and abilities.

Phonics: The use of dry-erase sentence strips allows students to practice writing words, reinforcing phonics skills. Identifying sight words with pointers helps students associate visual cues with specific sounds, contributing to phonics mastery. Students can use letter stamps to practice spelling words. This hands-on approach helps reinforce the connection between letters and their corresponding sounds, aiding in the development of phonemic awareness.
2. Phonemic Awareness: Mini hand clappers serve as effective tools for phonemic awareness by helping students identify phonemes and syllables in words. Pop its and finger pointers also contribute to phonemic awareness, engaging students in interactive ways to recognize and manipulate sounds.
3. Fluency: Pointers and finger pointers not only aid in phonics but also make fluency practice enjoyable during small group sessions. Engaging activities with manipulatives helps students follow along in reading passages, promoting a smoother and more fluent reading experience.
4. Vocabulary: Colored highlighter finger rings are excellent for guiding students through reading passages, emphasizing vocabulary development. Engaging with sight words and decoding words using various manipulatives enhances vocabulary retention and application.
5. Comprehension: Colored highlighter finger rings also play a role in improving comprehension skills by helping students identify key information in passages. The interactive nature of manipulatives encourages active participation, which is essential for building comprehension skills.
Incorporating these manipulatives into teacher-led centers creates an engaging and dynamic learning environment. Students can benefit from hands-on experiences that cater to different learning styles, making the learning process enjoyable and effective. By targeting these five components of reading, I am providing a well-rounded approach to literacy.
