My students need music instruments like the boom whackers and drums to play rhythms and songs, drum sticks for bucket drumming, and rhythmic scarves and ribbons for dance movement to make the music come alive.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach general music in multiple grades: TK, special needs TK, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth, at a Title I school in Bakersfield, California. I also work with 5th/6th grade chorus who often use hand held percussion instruments to enhance their concerts.
The students at this multicultural school have a love for music and a desire to play instruments.
Many of these students cannot afford instruments and private music lessons so my classroom is where they are able to learn music. Many 5th and 6th graders are involved in chorus, as well our school's instrumental music program.
My Project
My students love music; however, being at a Title I school I often don't have enough musical instruments like drums, or materials like scarves and ribbons to make my lessons come alive.
I do have some instruments for the students to use, but often there aren't enough for each student, and I have to borrow from another school in order to make the lesson successful.
Having enough Boom Whackers for example, means that all my students can participate at the same time. Many of my students become disappointed when there aren't enough instruments for everyone, and I believe learning happens with all involved!
That's why I'm asking for drums, scarves, bells, tambourines, and more, to fill in the gaps in my music room so all students can excel in music.
