The Real Guitar Hero

My students need a guitar and amp to complete their student led rock band so they don't have to purchase the equipment they need out of their own pocket.

My Students

"My dream is to play in a rock band," one of my students said to me the other day. Music touches the lives of every student in America whether they are learning it in a classroom setting or not. For those students who can't play an woodwind or brass instrument, rock band is their musical escape.

The students who come into my classroom before the first bell even rings are those who crave an outlet for their musical expression.

Some of these students are not even a part of the music classes I instruct throughout the day. For some of them, this is the only thing that allows them to express who they are as an individual and for others it is just a unique experience to just ROCK OUT!! But, as an educator, there is always an opportunity to change a young persons life. This is a project that will do just that. By providing a creative outlet for these students, they will be learning about music without even knowing it. While they are just jamming out, I will be teaching them key skills in developing musical understanding, such as ear training, improvisation, rhythmical structuring and form and analysis.

My Project

Are you ready to ROCK? The resources listed in our project will not only be effective in a rock band setting, but provide much needed equipment for our jazz ensemble as well. Therefore, the impact of this project goes beyond the reach of the students in the rock band. With an effective amp and guitar I will be able to teach countless students how to play guitar, be able to provide much needed equipment for our student led rock band and also give the jazz ensemble the deep supported sound it badly needs. With the help of you the donors and "ABC Family," I hope that we can make these students dreams reality.

For some students rock band is where they "fit in".

The group provides a safe space for students to express who they are as an individual. Through rock band, I will not only be creating this safe environment, but creating a whole new learning experience for students who are not a part of band class.
