This year I have decided to return to my special education roots in a new district and my class will be a mix of kindergarten through fifth grade. I teach small intervention groups as the resource teacher. I met my new students at the end of last year and they are wonderful and eager to learn.
I can't wait to get to know them better and start making an educational difference and watch them bloom.
From the excitement to learn paired with kind encouragement of friendship, this year is going to be awesome-sauce!
My Project
My students work daily on their learning. Most classrooms have a classroom economy of some type and my program is not different. For each subject and group, my students earn "money" that they hold in a "wallet" until our monthly store day.
Money is earned in many ways, mainly through persevering with a growth mindset.
For each hard challenge, students are rewarded in multiple ways, both with verbal praise and tangible items. Students work hard each day and are excited to watch their money grow in value. Our store day is so exciting for students and me too! Watching them calculate what they want to buy, what is "costs" and how much they have is so fun. Seeing them immediately get excited about working the next month to earn more is heart warming!
