My students need flexible seating options, such as wobble discs, kneeling pads, and lap desks to meet their sensory needs, help them focus, and release energy, all while engaging in meaningful learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students are ESOL and come from a low poverty level. In addition to this they come to me with many challenges to overcome. Most of my class come to me a year and a half or more below grade level , have ADHD, ADD, EBD, and/or a learning disability. Because of this, they fight even harder and work exceptionally hard to make growths and gains in the classroom.
Teaching these students strategies and skills to help them overcome and work with the challenges they have is my passion.
Each student comes to me with a unique set of skills that they share with one another and build upon throughout the year as they learn, grow, and become passionate individuals.
My Project
Students are asked to sit and work for 6-7 hours a day, often in one and half to two hour increments. How many 8 and 9 year old kids do you know that can sit still for that long?
In addition to being 8 and 9 year old boys and girls, my students have many challenges to overcome, including being significantly behind grade level, having ADHD, ADD, EBD and/or a learning disability.
Despite these challenges they work hard everyday to make significant gains and growth.
Think about it, how long can you sit still before you are fidgeting and finding an excuse to get up and walk around? Flexible seating options, such as wobble seats, chair bands, and kneeling pads will allow my students the ability to move while engaged in working. This will allow my students to work harder and longer before they need a break. Increasing the length of time they are able to maintain focus will increase their levels and begin closing the gaps. Clipboards will allow the students to take their work with them anywhere, including outside where we can use chalk to make physical number lines to round in math, sit in the outdoor classroom and write, and/or stand and work. In today's technology enhanced world, lap desks will allow the students the choice of sitting where they like and still being able to use the laptops.
Funding this project will provide my students with the choice they need to succeed!
