My Students

My students are part of a small community in central Maine. Many of the families that I work with experience poverty and other factors that may affect their children's ability to learn. We are fortunate enough to have a district that provides free lunch and breakfast to all students throughout the school year and summer as well. This can help lessen the load that some families may struggle with and ensure that students are not hungry throughout the day.

I'm a strong believer that just like we teach math, reading, and writing explicitly, we must also teach social skills and coping strategies explicitly too.

In my classroom, we take time weekly to learn about, discuss, and practice important social-emotional skills that students need to be both successful students and citizens in the community.

My students love to learn and try new things! One of their favorite things that are integrated into the classroom is the use of technology for reading, writing, and math. Due to state budget cuts, unfortunately, this is very limited for each classroom.

My students are unique, inquisitive, and compassionate learners. They come to school each day ready to take on new challenges and learn new skills!

My Project

One of the greatest joys of childhood is learning through play! In a perfect world, school would be a place where students can engage in real-life experiences through hands-on play and exploration.

By helping to fund this project, you would be providing my young learners with materials that support our science concepts (nutrition/food groups, weather, space, plants) through play.

I believe in an integrated approach to teaching and providing fun, meaningful ways for students to make connections.

The tools provided by this project would do just that for my students! More specifically, the rocket ship play tent and little explorer telescope will allow students to role play what they learn about astronauts and outer space! The camping materials (pretend plush campfire and s'mores toy set) will help students role play outdoor adventuring and environmental awareness! The food and kitchen tools will help students understand things like fractions (pizza sets), addition and subtraction, healthy versus unhealthy choices, etc.

I have seen the value that allowing students to learn through play has brought to our classroom and cannot wait for these additional materials to enhance their experiences!
