Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With this project, I aim to support Multilingual Learners (MLs) entering 9th grade, the start of high school, as they navigate the emotional, academic, and personal transitions involved. This grade level lays the foundation for higher education and fosters the drive to graduate.

This year, I would love to provide them with more creative materials—such as colored paper and markers—to encourage participation and writing through activities like creating posters, mini-posters, and mind maps.

Likewise, snacks such as crackers, breakfast bars, and other treats will be a vital contribution to my students' well-being; many arrive at school without having eaten breakfast, and providing them with food helps keep them focused and encourages class participation. Finally, cleaning supplies are essential for keeping the classroom clean and fresh-smelling, creating a pleasant and calm environment. Paper towels, in particular, are indispensable not only for cleaning surfaces but also for the students to clean their hands or wipe up accidental spills.

The project will provide resources tailored to their learning needs, incorporating socio-emotional support, creativity, and educational challenges to help them overcome language barriers and unlock their individual talents, all while teaching them teamwork and skill-building.

Goals:

- Academic and linguistic scaffolding.

- Create activities related to daily life, life goals, and cultural adaptability.

- Guide students to begin defining their expectations, goals, and skills.

My students face academic, cultural, and personal challenges that will make a difference in their lives. The transition from middle school to being newcomers, learning a new language, and adapting to a new culture and educational system will be a personal and academic challenge for them, where they will learn to confront themselves and learn to grow and strengthen their skills.
