This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are simply awesome. I teach 7th and 8th- grade special education students from the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. Most are Latino, some African -American, but all are fantastic. Almost all of my students hail from the nearby housing project and the surrounding area. Spanish is the prevailing language, but nearly all are approaching proficiency in English.

The neighborhood is typically urban with all of the attendant challenges, but these kids are resilient.

They meet challenges head-on and with a great, positive mindset. They deserve more than I can give so I've decided to try my luck on DonorsChoose. org. You'd do well to choose to help these kids - it will come back to society ten-fold!

My Project

Quite simply...we need paper in order to complete Social Studies mapping exercises as well as to adapt materials for access for Special Needs students. This takes lots of paper which we do not have a huge supply of. With the comfort level afforded by an adequate paper supply, we can feel secure in the knowledge that we have enough.

A further need for paper has been occasioned by the dearth of technology available to my students.

Our district is doing its best, but there simply aren't enough computers, or textbooks, to go around. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first try at this...so I'm crossing my fingers!
