This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My beautiful second graders live in a diverse community and are beginning to understand the real world around them. They live in a high-poverty, high-traffic neighborhood with the school setting being their own little world. For this reason, I try to create a warm and welcoming classroom environment where they feel safe and receive regular doses of knowledge and encouragement.

With the new academic year right around the corner, this is a great time to stock up on some much-needed materials!

The large silicone mats will be used like rugs - perfect for students to use during our floor STEM stations. Each rotation will include some of our LEGO sets, Magna-Tiles, marble runs, puzzles, or other hands-on activities. The mats are an easy, efficient, and environmentally-friendly option - better than just butcher paper. Set up and clean up will be a breeze!

The students will use the plastic mats when painting, coloring, or gluing to keep tabletops clean. Lastly, the braces and screwdriver will be used to strengthen (and repair) our MDF cubbies. Several shelves are cracked and stripped, but the braces will secure them in place and help prevent future damage. This is important to allow each student to have an assigned cubby space. All these materials make a difference to improve our work and play.
