This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My beautiful second graders live in a diverse community and are beginning to understand the real world around them. They live in a high-poverty, high-traffic neighborhood with the school setting being their own little world. For this reason, I try to create a warm and welcoming classroom environment where they feel safe and receive regular doses of knowledge and encouragement.
The remedial phonics materials are highly needed in my classroom for students who are delayed with their reading.
Rather than depending on technology, this allows my students to practice with hands-on games and building pieces to develop their phonics and blending skills. The backpacks will be given to every homeless student schoolwide, with any remaining given to students in my classroom. The saline solution and baking soda (with glue already in stock) will be used to create slime and stored in the plastic containers. All of these needed materials, including the dry erase markers and fidgets, will make a huge difference to keep the students learning and engaged.
