This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My beautiful second graders live in a diverse community and are beginning to understand the real world around them. They live in a high-poverty, high-traffic neighborhood with minimal opportunities to run and be outside. Their only regular play and exercise opportunity is at school.

Second grade is a wonderful time to teach children about making good choices, which includes exercising to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Students can use the tennis balls to practice bouncing, hitting, and catching. The jump ropes can be used to develop hand-eye coordination. The exercise bikes would be great for indoor recess, to release excess energy and to give students an introductory experience in riding bikes. Finally, the cart would allow the students to carry out and return any necessary equipment to and from the play area. These requested materials will show students that exercise is fun and good for you! Plus, they will learn about teamwork, sportsmanship, endurance, and physical fitness.

As we know, childhood obesity is becoming more and more of a problem. Especially in this day of fast-food conveniences and sitting behind a screen, it's easy for students to pick up bad habits. Instead, I would love to see my students interact, play, and get strong!
