Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and immerse themselves daily in the cultures of their peers through learning two languages (English and Spanish).
Our students strive for academic excellence in both languages in all academic subjects which makes them very unique.
Each child brings something special to the classroom through their experiences and areas of expertise. They make our school an exceptional place to be through their determination to be successful academically while embracing the many cultures that come together within our walls.
My Project
Our classroom is in decent shape for this year but we are needing to restock in some essentials that we are running low on. In 5th grade, we love starting off the year with reading the book Frindle however, many of our copies have been pretty worn down from all the use. We need new books to replace our falling apart resources.
Each new year means new learners and new needs.
We have more 5th graders than ever before this year so we are in need of headphones for our higher numbers, along with additional storage solutions like drawers to store away needed daily materials. We need a set of tools so that we can finally adjust all our desks and chairs to be at heights appropriate for growing 5th graders. Our classroom printer is also running low on toner and we won't be able to print our incredible writing pieces without it.
Lastly, we are all bilingual learners here and having bright, beautiful, and informative posters in English and Spanish will promote our language learning even more! We also need heavy duty storage portfolios to store sets of the posters as we swap them here and there over the course of the year to keep our learning fresh.
