My Students

"Mrs. P., when are we going to use those clickers again? They were the not boring way to test!" My students recently had the opportunity to use the iRespond Lite system in our classroom and now they see it is the way to go!

I have a class of 18 students who come from all sorts of backgrounds.

Our school is a Title I school with many of our students living beneath the poverty line. They do not have opportunities that most students have with technology, but crave it.Our class has students who are gifted, receiving special education services, and are in speech classes. Most of my students are extremely shy and do not feel comfortable speaking aloud or contributing during class in fear of being wrong. When we recently had the chance to use the iRespond Lite system, the students took to it immediately. It increased their focus and excitement during our lessons. All students were thrilled to participate and be engaged in the lesson without fear. These students need a confidence boost in their education!

My Project

The iRespond Lite is a response system that gives each child a device much like a remote control. The device has buttons for multiple choice responses that the students press and it is sent to a computer. This allows the students to respond to a teacher's question during a lesson without the rest of the class hearing their response. The teacher can quickly glance at the computer and see which children need some added help to understand. Students become more involved and feel comfortable responding to a lesson. The result is a rise in confidence and grades. Furthermore, these systems are in colleges and Universities around the state. It will give the students schema on this technology that they will one day use. These students are coming from a background with very little technological experiences and will need opportunities like this to keep them caught up with their peers.

Do you remember that agonizing feeling of fear that the teacher was going to call on you to answer a question in front of your peers?

The iRespond Lite system will take this fear away from students while helping keep the students on track. Can you imagine how efficiently a classroom can run when the teacher can use the data from iRespond Lite to guide her teaching? This device will change my students' whole outlook on school and the result will be a higher achieving class!
