My Students

My "kids" are a combination of advance students and regular ed students (which also includes a mixture of students who speak English as a second language and special education students). I teach at a magnet school for math, science and technology but all students here are at risk for not graduating high school or attending college (what is called a Title I school). My "kids" love science and technology and the way I incorporate it into my daily lessons. They especially love doing anything hands on or things that "WOW" them and make them think.

My Project

Every item on my list, big (like the bell jars, scales and models) to small (like the games, books, bouncy bands, and clipboards) help my students to be successful in the classroom and participate in real world science.

Many of my students as sixth graders have not been exposed to science in over a year and they crave the hands on inquiry that I use in my class.

Many of my students come to me with a backpack full of issues, anywhere from trauma in the home to undiagnosed disabilities to struggling to understand English as an English language learners.

I work with them all to give them the support they need in the most equitable way I can. These items will help me support them and give them a glimpse into who they can be when they are successful.
