"Could you see if you can find this book for me?" I'll never forget the day that one of my students, who swore the first day I met her that she hated reading and would never enjoy it, started making book requests when she heard I was going to a used book store. Or another student, who told a friend, "Read this. It will take you on a journey you can't possibly imagine!"
This is why I do what I do.
I want to show my students that learning isn't just something you do at school. It's something that gives you the key to a door that opens to a whole new world ready for you to explore. Students enter worlds they never knew existed and understand concepts they never dreamed to imagine.
I can't wait to share this love with my third graders!
My Project
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is an incredible book that follows Edward, a toy bunny, on a truly .. well ... miraculous journey! Edward is a spoiled, privileged bunny who lives a wonderful life with his loving owner, Abilene. Suddenly, tragedy strikes and Edward goes on an unplanned journey through circumstances he would never have imagined.
There will be many life lessons my students can learn about diversity, including others, and how different people live in very different ways.
We will go along with Edward and learn along with him life lessons that will stay with my students for life. Discussions about theme, symbolism, and character traits will teach my students about a world I would never be able to take them to without this book!
