The Mini Modes of Learning

My students need an iPad Mini and case for reinforcing new skills and remediation in skills that need more practice.

My Students

There is no "one way" to approach learning. That's the message that we as teachers try to get across to our students. An iPad Mini would help my students reach their greatest learning potential

We are a small, rural school in East Texas, with a high poverty rate and low SES.

My students are in a self-contained environment where all subjects are taught. We are striving to present these intermediate students with motivating modes of learning at school that may not be available to them at home. With well over one million apps now available for the iPad, this is one approach that keeps them engaged.

My Project

In this self-contained classroom, the learning styles dictate that these students have short periods of large group with several small, or even independent, tasks. This iPad mini will be shared among the class members during small group time. TEA (the Texas Education Agency) has determined four essence statements for each academic area. Each of these statements contained three predetermined educational criteria. These students must show mastery of these skills on individual assessments beginning in January and ending in April. On this iPad, I will create a folder for each student containing apps that address these academic needs in reading, math, and writing. During small group time students will select their personal folder of apps and practice on the targeted skills. This is true differentiation. Students will be highly motivating to learn on an iPad.

For many of these students, the regular use of this iPad mini could mean the difference between mastery of a skill and falling through the cracks.

These children need this hands-on opportunity. Please help me provide it for them.
