Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

With very limited space in an older school building, the mental health/school psychologist's office is in desperate need of a makeover for functionality and appeal to students! The office is shared by five staff mental health or special education staff members throughout the week. As such, it's imperative we have a collective set of materials we can use with students instead of having to transport things around with us day-to-day. We have asked for a few items to improve the aesthetics for students in the office, namely, bins for organizing, a lamp for better lighting, and stick-on wallpaper to update the space a bit. We have also asked for therapeutic and sensory tools to help support students during their social-emotional work time including a dollhouse, sandbox, fidgets, putty, games, books, and art supplies.

These items will help students to de-escalate, focus and be able to tap into their potential to make cognitive shifts and gains during their time with us.

We also included other office necessities including a white board for shared communication and learning, and flexible seating options for our neurodivergent students who need better proprioceptive support.
