Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

During the 2024-2025 school year, I will be teaching math and science to about 60 5th graders. As I prepare my room for next year, I want to showcase bright, colorful posters that will be a visual guide throughout the year to help students.

Posters and anchor charts displayed throughout a classroom are known to have a positive impact on students understanding and retaining information.

Every year we are asked to remove posters and anchor charts during standardized testing. And every year I notice students looking in the directions where our posters would have been. Even if they don't see it, looking at those spaces on the wall give students an opportunity to remember skills they learned.

My students enjoy learning new strategies, gaining new information, and thrive in a brightly decorated classroom. This project will be a continuation of that learning.
