My Students

I teach at an IB World School with a supportive staff and wonderful parents, and students who crave the need to be challenged. My sixth grade English students are all very eager to learn, create, and collaborate. The class runs the gamut in terms of the level of ability. I have students who need quite a bit of teacher assistance, and students who are reading at a twelfth grade level and are able to think and communicate abstractly.

My students would benefit greatly from having increased access to resources to continue challenging them in their education.

They are inquirers, risk-takers, and want to see how their education can take them beyond the English classroom. My goal as a teacher is to expand their horizons, and give them access to materials that they would not otherwise have access to.

My Project

My students need access to fiction and nonfiction paired texts as part of the state curriculum. Each spring, they take an SOL test where they are asked questions about two texts that are related to each other. As such, they need practice with this during the school year so they can feel prepared.

It can be difficult to find high interest, paired reading material to give to students for practice.

Having a classroom library with paired resources as well as a way to use them in lessons will change the way I teach and in turn, make students feel so much more prepared for their state tests.

This paired text classroom library that I am requesting will be used by all of my students in order for them to be better prepared for paired passages on their state test.
