My Project

My students come from one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the Bay Area. They are visual learners, so I pair their learning with props in my Biology classroom. I have a eclectic menagerie live and persevered animals ranging from snakes, fish and amphibians. Over the years, I've noticed every new experience I offer my students, there are always more than a few students that get their interest piqued and changing their attitude towards learning.

When I teach about the marine ecosystems in the ecology unit, I am hoping to use this salt water aquarium to demonstrate the different zones and how light and depth affect the different organisms in each area.

I want to simulate a coral reef when I set up the tank and when I establish a stable ecosystem I can hopefully incorporate live corals so student can learn about the complexity and diversity of a coral reefs.
