Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

We are putting together a brand new music lab for the students. Our goal is to give these students a creative outlet to connect with school, with music, with each other, and to express their creativity.

After the pandemic, schools have focused a great deal on remedial math and language arts with good reason.

But we also need to help our students reconnect with each other in more positive ways. We need to address the social, emotional, and mental aspects of how to communicate, how to express ourselves, and how to interact with each other again. Music is one of the best ways to do that!

This funded project will allow my students to explore music creation and performance through DJing, music production, and audio engineering. Students learn how this technology operates, how it functions in the world outside of school, and how to express themselves through music performance.
