My students need storytelling supplies such as crayons, journals, markers, a variety of pencils, headphones, and organizational supplies to tell the most magical kindergarten stories you've ever heard.
"Learning is an active process. We learn by doing." - Dale Carnegie
I teach a fun, energetic group of kindergartners with a love of learning.
My students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a variety of experiences into the classroom. They enjoy learning and are always ready and eager to explore and learn something new! Students take an active role in their learning by exploring and using their critical thinking skills daily. My goal is for all of my students to not only meet, but exceed the Indiana Academic Standards by creating a student-centered classroom.
Eighty-eight percent of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. The National Student Clearinghouse Research Center states that poverty is the best predictor of college attendance and completion. Their research has also found a good education is seldom available to children living in poverty, but the long-term solution is a high-quality education. Poverty is increasing, but the spending on education is not. The challenges my kindergartners face on a daily basis do not stop them from coming to school with a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn.
My Project
Do you remember the smell of a new box of crayons? I sure do! Many of my students are unable to provide that box of new crayons or enough to last throughout the year. A new box of crayons or markers or even pencils can bring kinder writing alive!
These supplies will bring my kindergartners', already amazing writing, to new heights!
Their illustrations will be bright and colorful with the new markers, pencils, and crayons. Their stories will be organized and neat inside their new journals! Students will write in these daily and have full ownership of their stories. Their new materials will be organized inside the new caddies.
We are very lucky to have access to a computer lab and also a listening station inside our classroom; however, it is difficult to hear due to headphones that do not work or fit my kinders' smaller heads. These headphones will allow students to listen to a variety of both non-fiction and fiction stories, inspiring their own stories to write and then share with others!
These storytelling materials are going to increase excitement and engagement for writing! I cannot wait for my students to get started and share their stories with you!
