Help me give my students amazing big books and storytelling kits. My students love read alouds and these big books give the children the opportunity to learn narrative elements, sight words and one-to-one correspondence.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Welcome to our room! Our class has 16 amazing kindergarten students! I am so fortunate because they truly care about one another and love to work together and share with their classmates. They are sweet as sugar!
Our class is not quiet but rather has some pretty wonderful energy and excitement.
They love to sing, dance and move. They burst into song at random points during the day! All this singing and academic conversations and discussions are the backbone of our daily learning.
Our class is diverse... Latino, African American, White, Samoan, Filipino and Yemeni. Combined, they speak 5 different languages and they are proud to be bilingual. They are proud of who they are.
My Project
These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning. The materials include classic big books with puppets and traditional folktale puppets. Together, these materials will help learn early literacy skills. After learning our letters and sounds, they are ready to begin memorizing even more sight words, developing the ability to track print, and studying narrative elements of fiction stories. The puppets will provide an engaging way to retell stories and will permit students to act out stories in reader's theatre.
My students are almost all English Language Learners and these magical big books with large print and colorful illustrations will facilitate their learning of language.
Our school is historically underserved and we struggle to test well. In kindergarten, my goal is to have all my students reading, writing and doing math at or above grade level so their academic career gets a huge, positive start!
