Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is diverse both economically and demographically. Each year, I try to find new and innovative ways to improve my teaching to benefit the needs of all my students. With Common Core standards, STEM integration and the makerspace movement, I have learned to release some control of my classroom to more student-directed inquiry. Every child has capabilities, talents, and strengths; sometimes, all it takes is exposure or motivation. They are the ones who motivate, inspire and drive the focus of my lessons each day.
With a wide range of learning styles each year, I want to encourage my student to explore their passions during "Genius Hour".
They will have an opportunity to research, be creative and produce projects that interest them in a classroom setting.
My Project
I want to empower my students and encourage them to take responsibility for their learning by creating an environment that promotes independence, creativity, inventiveness and perseverance.
My goal for this project is to develop a makerspace environment with hands-on activities using Osmo-Genius, Ozobot, Stem challenge cards, 3D printing pen, and Snap Circuits.
This will provide my students with the vehicle and purpose for learning. They will use these items to become innovators and critical thinkers to solve real-world problems.
During the "Genius Hour", students will generate a question that inspires them. They will use these useful tools to research and experiment to dig deeper on the topic. As a result, this will help my students become lifelong learners in the 21st century!
