My students are an inquisitive group of fourth graders who are always ready to step up to the challenge, no matter what it may be. They are creators, writers, builders, thinkers, and readers ready to take on the challenges of being an active learner.
They are a highly motivated group of readers and enjoy literature time even more when it includes book clubs and discussion.
Having multiple floor tables will increase their motivation to share their books through active discussions.
This group comes from a small town setting with big city dreams. Many of our students (75%) receive free or reduced rate lunch, but that statistic does not hold them back. They are eager to learn and build on their current knowledge. Reading is just one way I can enhance their knowledge and help them to see that they too can overcome challenges that life may bring.
My Project
My students enjoy sitting on the floor at low tables for written work and small group work. By having two more floor tables my students will have two more low spaces for small group work and book club discussions.
My students are more focused when sitting on the floor and complete their work quicker.
They work quietly together and I am able to have multiple discussions taking place at one time with low work spaces.
During book clubs, my students relax and talk about their books. By having two more low tables, more students will be able to work in small groups in a comfortable space.
