My Students

Do you remember getting hooked on a series of books as a child? Think of the anticipation and excitement you felt waiting for and then finally reading the prized next installment in your favorite series. My students share that excitement and joy of waiting for and then finally devouring the newest books in their favorite series. My students are inquisitive, voracious readers who are craving to discover the newest adventures in their favorite book series.

We just read "A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer in class.

Students were passionate, angry (as they should be), and highly interested. So much so, that a student in my class went to a book store and bought the sequel. We have started reading that in class. We want to each get our own copy of the novel so we can follow along and read at home!

My Project

We read with students during our office hour period. Students are allowed to select a book of their choice to read independently. Although students in my class were so engaged in the novel "A Child Called It" by Dave Pelzer that we ended up reading it together and getting in heated discussions.

We want to get the next novel in the series "The Lost Boy" to read together as a class.

Our project will engage students in a text we already know they will love and help them reach their "words read" goal, which is a data point we track as a school to make sure students are reading and reading a lot!
