Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I don't want students just sitting using pen, pencil and paper. That's not the world they live in.
My students are talkative, creative, and curious.
They enjoy activities during which it doesn't seem like I'm trying to teach them something (although I am) such as drawing a veggie or fruit as a superhero and sharing its superpower with 4 people and then drawing the hero's nemesis and sharing again, or having teams of students build a 30-centimeter tower out of link cubes that will support the weight of a basketball. Many of my students have difficultly sitting still and quietly for an extended period of time in a "normal" classroom environment. They also live in a low income area, and some of them don't have many toys, or books. A few don't even have crayons and paper at home.
My Project
My students have been using WeVideo (thanks to you!) on Chromebooks to turn their written work into video works. This gives students with spelling or handwriting difficulties a chance to express themselves clearly as well as those students with presentation anxiety are able to speak to the whole class.
We need a lot of 'little' tech to help the 'big' tech, so exploration, learning, and growth can happen.
We need headphones because 27 Chromebooks playing 27 different voices while editing videos can overwhelm even the most focused students. We need mice because it's not user friendly to right click on a touch pad. We need clip on microphones to record voices clearly. We also need some tablets to make video records trial and error lesson to add to our video presentations.
