My students need eight listening devices (with headphones) and books that encourage fluency to optimize their listening and reading experiences during center time.

My students are imaginative, creative, and enthusiastic firstgraders with a love of learning.
They are developing readers and writers. In my classroom we have enjoyed three chapter books already since the start of the school year. I believe read-alouds are very important as they help students imagine, listen, question, engage, and experience reading through modeling. They enjoy reading books on their own as well, however, being a second year teacher, my library is still growing. Many of my students come from low-income, hard-working families. I want to provide an experience where students can enjoy and escape into a good book with their own personal listening device.
My Project
The resources I chose will provide an engaging listening center that will be mobile. The gift of reading and listening to stories being read provide experiences into imagination and build a foundation of an early love of reading. This early love for reading will help my students become more fluent, competent readers, that comprehend and infer which will essentially help them in all curriculum areas throughout their educational experiences. My students will learn important reading strategies from modeling (the readers on CD) and be able to later read those same stories to other peers. My goal is to help build confidence to all of my readers by "listening" to the story, reading the story, and then sharing the story either through journaling, informal writings, or orally.

Reading is interpretation, imagination, creation, expression, and fascination. Reading is sharing, believing, and achieving. I want all children to achieve and I truly believe when they experience the gift of reading, through listening, shared reading, silent reading, or choral reading for instance, a student walks that much easier down the path of their educational journey.
