Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
5th grade is a big year as you are getting ready to enter into middle school in just a few short months! I want my students to properly be equipped and knowledgeable for when they walk through those middle school doors next year and shine on top! I don't want them to have any hesitation in their knowledge or in their confidence in the things they know. Having the right supplies can help equip my students while teaching them to fall in love with learning!
Many of my students have come from all over, literally many different countries.
For some students, this is their first or second year ever in a school. They are already fighting many barriers between language and cultural differences so I want my classroom to have the tools that allows students to feel more at home. Teaching twenty 10 year olds while trying to balance a language barrier can be difficult but with their hard-working mindsets and dedication to learn and grow they achieve new goals everyday!
My Project
The items I have chosen line up with the standards my students will be learning throughout the year. I have always noticed math as a struggle for some students, however, when you are able to add in manipulatives it can bring math to life given students the exposure they need to fully comprehend a standard. Math is all around us in life and I want my students to be able to apply what they know to real-life situations and with the right tools, they are able to do so! By donating to my project you are helping a student create a growth mindset that allows them to learn the way that best suits them! In our classroom there is no limit!
One of the biggest struggles I notice in my students is knowing their multiplication facts.
A foundation they need to have set in stone to master most other math standards. The use of multiplication board games, card games, and hands-on materials will help students practice their skills daily while enriching their learning experience.
