Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at my school are inquisitive, engaging, and diverse. Many are English language learners, and access to books is very important to all my students! My tK-5 elementary school in a low socioeconomic urban area. Our school library is an essential resource for my students.
There are many students who do not have access to books at home and rely on our school library for access to books.
Many of our books were "lost" during the pandemic and there is an urgent need to not only replenish classics but add additional new and diverse authors to connect with the students and encourage them to read!
My Project
The addition of these books will continue to enhance the library we have. My library is a place that all the students in the school really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, and they read independently! Every student is welcome in my library, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-I have watched them the past few weeks of school read titles just like these, and I have also asked them what type of books they would enjoy reading. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of authors and subjects that will allow them to progress in their reading levels.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help all grade levels grow stronger in reading. My students have begun to show an unparalleled interest in reading new authors, and this project will only help enrich their reading experiences.
