Our Title I school is like many other schools across the county, most of the children come from low income, poverty-stricken homes. Here at HRA each and every child receives breakfast and lunch daily at no cost to them. There are also many students who receive a "weekend food bag" to help them make it through the weekend where meals are hard to come by! Many live in low-income housing, hotels, and some are even in shelters. For many in my class, English is their second language and some have special needs. With that being said, they all love to come to school and want to learn. They deserve all the resources we can give them.
My amazing students are charming, super smart, adorable, little 5 and 6 year-old children who come to school every day, craving knowledge.
These kiddos come in the door ready to learn and have fun. They will laugh, cry, hug, giggle, play, and learn all in one place: their classroom. I really hope to do my best to help them achieve success!
My Project
As I am sure you know, technology in the classroom is a must if we want this generation of children to be able to succeed in their education and in their future employment. In our classroom we have a standard (but ancient) desk top computer, 4 iPads (thank you Donors Choose) yet we do not have a laptop for the students! I would love to add this MacBook Pro to our tech center!
I chose the MacBook over other less expensive laptops for two reasons; first it will be able to sync with the iPads making the apps and activities consistent.
Second, because it is a much better quality laptop. I have had one myself for years and I love all that it can do! I can also share activities and apps from my Apple laptop to theirs easily!
With this laptop the students will be able to use apps such as Reading a-z, Science a-z, and DreamBox during math and literacy centers each day!
Please help me add this final piece to our technology center!
