This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students rise to their learning goal each day because they have learned to believe in themselves, one another and our classroom family. I am a Kindergarten teacher at a high poverty Title I school. Many of my students come from hardships. Many get ready for the day on their own, get themselves to school as well as siblings. Despite having to take on adult roles, when each student enters my room he/she becomes a kid again. They thrive through talk and discussion, absorb knowledge through read alouds, celebrate one another in math, writing, and everyday life. My students rise to the standards I give from them. They rise higher than society many have initially felt they could. Your donations to my classroom will remind them of the endless power and possibilities they have with an education.
My Project
By donating to this project, donors share the love for reading and the power of books beyond the classroom. I teach at a Title I school and many students are experiencing high poverty. Due to this poverty items beyond basic needs are not thought of or met unless resources are available at school or the classroom. Support of this project will ensure students receive one book each month (for the remainder of the school year) to take home, keep, enjoy, and build their home library.
Many of my students don’t have access to books at their homes so gifting them with books that they can call their own is a precious gift.
