The Joy of Dance... In PE! With Portable Sound Gear

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Dance offers enormous benefits to children. Physically it promotes body awareness, flexibility, coordination, and strength. Additionally, coordinating movement to music can be therapeutic and coordinating movement in groups enhances social, emotional, and communication skills. As an early elementary PE Coach, I have gained permission from my school's leadership to take a non-traditional approach to PE that will include dance!

Dance is beneficial to young hearts, minds, and bodies and I'm asking your help purchasing a durable portable sound gear for indoor/outdoor dance practices (& parties!) to share the joy of dance with my students.

PE will take place both inside and outside this year and a few essential supplies will make the dance units possible. First is a speaker box with battery power and Bluetooth capabilities. Second is a wireless headset. Whether indoors or outdoors this will allow us to move and groove together. We'll be able to hear the music and I won't have to shout to teach. Thanks for your generosity!

My Project

After five years of teaching dance and fitness in a New Orleans elementary school, I took a year away to teach yoga in a studio. Through these experiences, I have witnessed the joy of dance and movement making people healthier and happier! One aspect that did not make me healthier of happier was overusing my voice to project over the playlist. No amount of hot tea with lemon can cure a whole week of instructing over amplified music. What's needed is a portable speaker AND microphone so that yoga and dance instruction in my new school can contribute to the happiness and the health of both my students and myself!
