Mrs. L. Q. Kennedy from Greenville SC is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need to learn best practices to support the inclusive classroom to allow me to learn ways to engage students within the classroom, along with developing a cohesive environment with my co-teacher.

I am an Exceptional Needs Specialist with National Board Certification. I have been teaching for 16 years working with students with disabilities. I have been in a wide variety of classrooms which include working with students with Specific Learning Disabilities, Behavioral/Emotional Disabilities, and Autism. Teaching these students how to be well-rounded individuals who have the confidence to excel in any situation and to embrace differences is why I am passionate about this work.
My student's are a diverse group of students with Emotional and Learning Disabilities as well as Autism.
What makes them special is that despite the labels, they are putting their best foot forward to become the best version of themselves that they can be. They learn to advocate for themselves about their grades and learn how to truly get the most out of their education by understanding that they can learn, but realizing that I must know "how I learn best." The best part about it, is that along with the 20 students that have exceptionalities, I interact with 60 other students who are vibrant, diverse, spunky, intelligent, tenacious, and caring within the various high school English classes that I serve.
The field of education is diverse and ever-changing. As an educator working with students who have disabilities (Individualized Education Plans), I must learn how to integrate myself into the inclusive classroom. It is important to learn the art of co-teaching with someone else, so that strategies and best practices will be integrated to help all students within the setting.
This training will assist with creating meaningful lessons that incorporate differentiation effectively.
Because I work with multiple teachers daily who have limited training related to special education, I will be able to collaborate with them given the information obtained from the conference.
