Help me give my students a class set of the novel The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury, a collection of short stories that are high interest and high engagement.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Please help to give my students a class set of the collection of short stories The Illustrated Man. The Illustrated Man is a 1951 collection of 18 science fiction short stories by American writer Ray Bradbury. A recurring theme throughout the stories is the conflict of the cold mechanics of technology and the psychology of people. The unrelated stories are tied together by the frame story of The Illustrated Man, a vagrant former member of a carnival with an extensively tattooed body whom the unnamed narrator meets. The man's tattoos, allegedly created by a time-traveling woman, are individually animated, and each tells a different tale.
This collection of short stories that are dystopian in nature, catch the attention of even the most stubborn of readers.
I have yet to meet a student who hasn't found at least one story in this book that they didn't end up enjoying. The tales in this book span some of his more popular tales to some of the more obscure. These novels can be used as a whole class read, can be used to direct literature circles, can have specific excerpts or passages used, and other options. It is important to give students a variety of options to choose from. This helps to engage students in their own learning and to keep them interested. We want students to be in charge of their own learning and giving them options is one way of doing that.
I want to be able to offer my students the best education that I can offer and I need materials to do that. With your help I will be able to offer more materials to students than I previously have been able to offer. Please consider donating and taking a part in a community's education! Thank you!
