My Students
My students inspire me each day with their genuine love of learning about the world around them as well as about their own communities and the critical issues that impact their lives and families. Because they are such a diverse group of students, they bring all their experiences in the world to the classroom, and we learn from each other. We struggle with important issues as we seek to understand and learn. I learn as much from them as they do from me. What makes them so special is that they understand and accept that they too are not just learners, but that they are also teachers.
My Project
Critically analyzing and discussing films is an important aspect of any language arts classroom. The money donated will allow me to purchase tickets for all of the students to attend and to help those who can not afford to buy snacks. Viewing The Hate U Give will only add to my students' understanding and knowledge of so many important social justice issues that impact their lives and communities each and every day. This film is a reflection of their lived experiences and will give them a visual representation of what they have read and discussed in class.
This film will help to increase students' comprehension and analysis skills and offer them a different approach to learning that is not just print based but capitalizes on the diverse learning styles of all students.
