My 8th grade students are from diverse backgrounds and communities. They inspire me each day with their love of learning and their desire to know more about the world around them as well as the communities in which they live. We spend a lot of looking at and discussing the world around us and connecting that to our own personal experiences and families. When students see themselves in the curriculum we teach, it tells them that their lives, voices, experiences, and communities are vital and necessary to their academic learning and growth. I want them to experience all that he wold has to offer; in this case, I want to take them to New York City to see the Broadway play, To Kill a Mockingbird, a novel we will read during third quarter.
