Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are future engineers, artists, and problem-solvers who see the world in high definition. We are a High-Need school where my kids often have to make do with what they have.

They are hungry for a project that is 'bigger than them'—something that allows them to leave a legacy on our campus while learning the fundamentals of grid-based logic and binary design.

We are turning our boring chain-link fence into a giant 'Pixel Screen.' Using Put-In-Cups, students will use coordinate geometry and ratio scaling to take a digital image and 'code' it onto our fence.

This project bridges the gap between digital pixels and physical matter. Every student in the school will place at least one 'pixel,' giving them ownership over our school’s environment and a tangible lesson in how small parts create a complex whole.

This project transforms our school’s perimeter from a barrier into a living laboratory for Applied Mathematics and Spatial Reasoning. By translating digital blueprints into a physical grid, students move beyond abstract worksheets to master coordinate geometry, ratio scaling, and area-density calculations in a real-world setting. This hands-on "Pixel Engineering" fosters Social-Emotional Learning by giving every child—from the quietest artist to the most kinetic learner—a tangible "seat at the table" to build a permanent landmark of school unity and pride.
