A little about this classic novel:The Great Gatsby is a Great American Novel of the 20th century. Set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, near New York City, The Great Gatsby depicts the tragic story of Jay Gatsby, a self-made millionaire, and his pursuit of Daisy Buchanan, a wealthy young woman who is his former lover. His doomed love story for the ultimately unattainable Daisy is considered an American dream that is never fulfilled.
Every year my students fall in love with this novel, but our copies have become worn out and pages coming up missing.
This is why I need your help to provide me with a classroom set that I can get another decade out of. I teach in a low income school, and it means a lot to my students to hold new books in their hands.
With this new book and unit will come many exciting projects kids love to do such as Symbol Charts, Cover Art Study, Gatsby Map, One Pager, and also a Research Paper where they focus on comparing the author F. Scott Fitzgerald with his main character Jay Gatsby. With these projects students will learn these standards: Multimodal Literacies-visual, Literary Elements -action, plot structure, characterization, Language-Writing- grammar, usage, and mechanics. They will also study standards that involve writing a research paper through researching credible sources, using MLA style, and proper composition of an essay.
This will be my 14th year teaching this novel, and every year I get the pleasure of experiencing it all over again with a fresh set of minds and opinions.
