Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a third-year school counselor at Pena, I have had the pleasure of working with a vast majority of my students for the past three years in the midst of COVID-19. My students inspire me daily with their positive mindsets, hard work ethic, kindness, compassion, and kind-hearted spirits despite the everyday obstacles they face in their personal lives outside of the school setting. Many students identify Pena as their safe haven.

COVID-19 has profoundly impacted my students over the past years in a variety of aspects socially, emotionally, and academically.

For a long period of time, my students were to remain at home and weren't physically allowed to attend school causing social isolation, lack of interaction with peers their age leading to depression, anxiety, and at times, living in an unsafe environment.
