Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The children in my classroom have a thirst for knowledge that will help them blossom into the leaders of tomorrow. With this group, who spent more than a year in Distance Learning, it is more critical than ever to make learning come to life.

The school garden will act as the conduit between learning a concept in the classroom and applying it in a real-world setting.

With just 2 weeks of school under our belt, the garden and my students have built a reciprocal relationship. Not only do they give to the garden, but the garden gives back. It offers students the opportunity to find common ground with each other, encourages conversation about the world around them, and generates an appreciation for the beauty in the little things.

My Project

The theme in my classroom this year is "giving back to the community". Therefore, we will begin by giving back to the school through reviving the school garden. With composting and watermelons in the works, our class agreed on growing milkweed to attract the Monarch butterfly. We would also like to add to the "drought resistant" section with custom painted rocks. Finally, students will plant sunflower seeds. Because of their rapid growth, we will measure and calculate the average growth rate of each sunflower.

The garden gives students an opportunity to invest in a project that gives back to the school.

It's time to revive the garden, work together, and learn how the beauty of nature can have a positive impact on each of us.
