Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a dedicated National Board Certified Education Specialist working in a high school environment. Our Title I school serves a diverse population, and I am inspired by the determination of my students as they navigate social, emotional, and academic challenges. In my Community-Based Instruction (CBI) class, we have had the opportunity to engage in various activities, including joining the yearbook staff, participating in school events, volunteering in the community, and serving on the Associated Student Body (ASB). My students thrive in movement and hands-on experiences, and I am truly honored to be their teacher, striving to encourage them to surpass their greatest expectations.

At the start of the semester, each student chose one meaningful word to guide and inspire them throughout the school year.

For this project, students will bring their words to life through vibrant multimedia artwork and transform our classroom into a student art gallery. Using black canvases, stencils, graffiti-inspired designs, scrapbook paper, and texture rollers, they’ll layer bold colors, patterns, and textures to create pieces that are uniquely their own. As they work, students will have another opportunity to reflect on the hopes and goals behind their chosen words. The finished gallery will celebrate their creativity, individuality, and growth. Lastly, civics and painting are deeply tied through the shared exploration of community, governance, identity, and social responsibility. Thank you for helping me create this amazing classroom experience.
