My Students
My classroom consists of 19 amazing second graders at an inner city school in Cincinnati, OH. These students are coming from low-income households. They have few opportunities to explore new worlds, but they can go 'anywhere' with a story. No matter the obstacles they may face outside of school, my students come to my classroom ready to learn each day. They enjoy the meaningful experiences they have in the classroom, whether it's working with me directly or working with their peers. They cannot take control of their lives at home, but they can take control of their own learning.
My students are determined, enthusiastic, and thoughtful.
A large number of my students are well below the 2nd grade reading level. They have come a long way but are still working to reach the 2nd grade reading level. They have so much drive and potential. With necessary resources, I know my students will be successful in their education!
My Project
"The Future of the World Is In My Classroom Today." The purpose of this project is to engage my students in small group literacy centers during literacy stations. Literacy Stations occur every day in my classroom, which are designed to differentiate instruction and meet students' individual needs. My students will use apps such as Farfia, Moby Max, and Epic! These apps all focus on strengthening reading fluency and sight word recognition. I want to give my students the absolute best experiences they can have at school because I cannot manage what goes on at home.
Reading gives us a place to go when we have to stay where we are.
Reading is the foundation to all other subjects and technology is the pen and paper of our time. It is crucial for students to be exposed to a wide variety of books and literacy tools for them to reach their full potential. The use of these Kindle Fire tablets will meet students where they are now in their academic journey, and guide them to reach their academic goals.
