Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I work with are friendly, creative, and full of energy. I work at a school where over half the students receive free or reduced-cost meals. They have varied backgrounds and include immigrants from many countries, families who have been in the U.S. for generations, and families who are members of the Coast Guard.

My students want to succeed even though they have challenges at home and in school that can make that difficult.

My Project

Second and Third graders are busy active learners, and I'm used to moving around while I teach. Being chained to a chair is restricting us! Students need brain breaks to get up and move! Using a stand-up desk will allow me to use movement to increase student engagement through the use of GoNoodle brain breaks and indoor recess lessons without having to move my computer around. Total Physical Response lessons provide opportunities to tie movement into memory in math and language arts. Having a stable computer location will help to keep me organized and focused.

This standing desk is a great asset to our classroom.

It will allow me to engage my students using brain breaks and "total physical response" teaching methods to get them up and involved in our lessons.

Virtual learning is a new experience for all of us, and students need encouragement to get up and move while on camera. Staring at a screen leads to lethargy and a loss of focus. Getting up and getting their blood flowing raises that attention level.
