My students are all African and Latino attending an empowerment high school in one of the poorest counties in NYC. Most of the students come from single parent homes where mom is the only parent. It's extremely important they learn about the world around them and the role technology can play in the process. They are good kids who will go much further once they realize the value of building their knowledge base and learning new skills. Since mom is often the only bread winner, things are tight. They are good kids who to often have to go without access to certain things their peers in more affluent areas might not have. I want to change this while expanding the scope of my teaching methods at the same time. So many adults aren't financially responsible and I want my students to avoid the same fate as they grow older. This project will help me accomplish this goal.
I am requesting Apple ear pods and twenty Coosh earbuds along with the Pay Day board game for my students.I recently established a partnership with Everfi. This has been a very successful project over they years, but unfortunately the ear pods often get damaged and need to be replaced. Everfi provides free online courses to students in grades k-12.The headphones will allow them to take the Financial Literacy courses such as the The Vault and many others in the future online. The Vault Understanding Money is an interactive course designed to introduce financial literacy skills early in a child’s cognitive development. Students will earn a certification upon completion of the curriculum, a representation of the important financial concepts they have mastered. The curriculum aligns with both state and national standards published by the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy.Vault is available to K-12 schools at no cost through public-private partnerships secured by EverFi. The students who complete the course with the highest averages will be awarded with the Apple air pod and Pay Day board games at the end of the semester.
