Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Recently our school became a S.T.E.A.M. magnet school and we could not be more excited! Our middle school students are mostly bused in from outside our population of almost 600 students and growing!. Our Special Education scholars represent approximately one quarter of our school population Teachers and students work together to become life long learners.
We are a Title I school based on our families' financial levels and every student is entitled to free lunch.
. This project will incorporate several different classrooms, covering both general education and special needs students.
My Project
My students are learning about the concepts of energy. We have a S.T.E.A.M. lab with a only a few pieces of track and about 3 cars to create a run. I want my students to be able to experiment with the forces of physics through the creation of what we call "marble runs" using marbles or a couple of old hot wheels cars.
We are learning about potential (stored) and kinetic (motion) energy through the use of familiar objects.
The students will have the opportunity to work in groups with general education science classes to understand how to create runs to explore their physics concepts.
