Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a diverse group of students, many are English language learners. I love my students because even though many have economic and academic disadvantages, they are enthusiastic learners.
They love reading and love learning!
My first graders have developed a love for the adventure of storytelling. I have been reading chapter books to the class and they can't wait to hear what happens next in the story! Reading aloud to the students help them develop the many literacy skills it takes to become great readers. Listening, speaking, reading and writing all go hand in hand for the students. They are incredible little people and have such desire to learn and share!
My Project
The books and sets were chosen to match the diverse interests of my students. The children have independent and partner reading time each day. Many first grade students make tremendous gains in their reading skills and move on to chapter books with higher content and more interesting story lines. These books will make a difference in keeping students interested in reading!
My students do not want to put these books down!
I want to have enough high interest books in our class library that students may take home to share with their families. Students enjoy reading to their families and being read to. I want to give them this opportunity.
