My Project

As the Resource Room teacher at my school, I have the privilege of working with struggling students in grades Kindergarten through five. Together, we work hard to develop our literacy and math skills, but there is always time for some grass roots campaigning!

While chatting about the importance of making every day Earth Day, my students expressed concern about the recycling situation in our school.

Many students shared that although they have multiple trash cans in their rooms, most students just toss their garbage into whichever is closer to them. One student suggested making student-friendly signs in Google Slides (on recycled paper, of course) to distribute to all of the classrooms, with pictures showing explicitly which trash goes where. The rest of the group jumped at the idea! My students know the importance of recycling and expressed concern about what would happen if our school continues on this path.

Help me provide the tools needed so my students can design and print signage to promote proper recycling around our school building! I am asking for a color printer to enable the students to bring their signs to life. After some research, we have decided to go with an eco-friendly printer to eliminate more waste. My students have already began brainstorming slogans, catch phrases and illustrations to include on their posters. We are hoping that hanging these signs in all of our classrooms will help promote appropriate recycling and make a positive impact on our environment! Help us, help the Earth!
