My Students

My students are typically not the traditional college bound students given the nature of my course load, but when given the right environment, their creativity and love of solving problems with hands on solutions makes teaching them an amazing experience.

My Project

I have begun incorporating the scanning capabilities of Rocketbook into my classroom using their free downloadable page templates. My goal was to combine the advantages of digital organization with the tactile learning experience of putting pencil to paper. This experiment has been wildly successful and I would like to put even more into it!

These materials will allow me to create a set of reusable Rocketbook pages for each student to have in their binder by printing a set of pages that I design for them using the Rocketbook templates and the waterproof paper.

The caddies will create stations at each table for the students that can hold the Frixion pens (the erasable pens that work with the waterproof paper to make the Rocketbook pages reuseable), and the microfiber cloths/waterbottles for erasing what they have written on their pages.

This gives the students the ability to turn in their handwritten assignments digitally to our class Learning Management System and store a backup in their Google Drive files. In addition, each assignment is tagged with its corresponding curriculum learning target to make it easily searchable for their creation of a Product of Learning at the end of each unit. This method also allows me to incorporate sketchnoting techniques to increase their ability to learn by establishing an expectation of having them translate verbal/written information into visual summaries and explanations - a method that dramatically increases understanding and knowledge retention.

My graduate degree in Instructional Technology has always driven me to incorporate technology in the classroom, but my classroom experience has also shown the need for students to have the tactile interaction of writing and drawing to better engage with their learning. I am truly excited to push the envelope on this method of classroom work!
